April 2026

Updates

While the Brown 2026 website includes fall 2026 courses, fall 2026 Brown 2026 Reads talks, and a complete list of events, we wanted to take a moment at the end of the semester to share some recent highlights and updates.

Brown 2026 Visiting Senior Fellows Irene Peirano Garrison, Joe Adelman, and Kate Jewell are completing their 2025-2026 year with Brown 2026. On April 28, Joe Adelman and Kate Jewell led an event called A Historically Informed Toolkit for Democratic Media in conversation with historian Bruce Schulman. Historians M.J. Rymsza-Pawlowska and Blake McGready will be the visiting fellows for 2026-2027. Also at the end of April, Brown 2026 co-chair Karin Wulf, coordinator Rebecca Brenner Graham, and several other Brown community members volunteered as judges for RI National History Day. The statewide competition was held at CCRI on April 25, and Brown 2026 was a sponsor. As of May 2026, the Brown 2026 Class of 1976 Oral History Project has completed 25 interviews. Ian Cressman ’28 and Mary Lynch ’29 conducted 20 of them during the spring semester. Benjamin Daniel ’29 and Samuel Peretz ’29 will be taking over and working on the transcripts this summer. The Class of 1976 oral histories will be the topic of one of three Brown 2026 panels at Reunion. The other two will be 1776! In and Across the Americas, as well as Cross Talk: Perspectives on Democracy with the Democracy Project. Barely two months until July 4, Brown 2026 looks forward to a gala with RI Historical Society in celebration of education across Rhode Island. But the semiquincentennial moments last longer than July 4, and you can email us any time at brown2026democracy@brown.edu. We are always looking for more ways to engage and support folks across the Brown community, including alumni, faculty and staff, and students.
