Welcome back to school with Brown 2026!
We’re looking forward to a day of presentations by Brown 2026 Visiting Faculty Fellows on October 2: Simon Newman, Marina Moskowitz, Joseph Adelman, Kate Jewell, Irenen Peirano Garrison, and our new arrivals for 2026-2027, M.J. Rymsza-Pawlowska and Blake McGreedy. This day-long event will include academic talks at 9:30am at the JCB and more public-facing talks at the John Nicholas Brown Center (JNBC) at 4pm.
Our fall 2026 curriculum features sixteen courses, including two signature classes: The Indigenous Worlds of the American Revolution taught by Linford Fisher and American Revolution in Popular Culture taught by Rebecca Brenner Graham.
During the first week of classes, registration opened for Brown 2026 Reads, the fifth semester of our program in which Brown 2026 partners with the Dean of the College to provide books for undergraduates to participate in discussions with faculty-authors. This semester’s selections are The Self in the West and East Asia by Jin Li; House of Diggs by Marion Orr; Lincoln’s Peace by Michael Vorenberg; Lineage by Karin Wulf.
The Brown 2026 signature program Cross Talk, a series of moderated conversations in which faculty from across the university explain their approaches to a given topic – co-sponsored with Discovery Through Dialogue – continued with a Cross Talk on Violence on September 23rd at the John Carter Brown Library (JCB).
You may have seen approximately two thousand historians in Providence for the joint meeting of the National Council for Public History and the American Association of State and Local History from September 16th through 19th. With a theme of The Work of Revolution, the conference included a Brown 2026 panel titled Campus and Community, featuring panelists from Brown and Rhode Island Historical Society.
The Brown 2026 Class of 1976 Oral History project completed preliminary transcripts throughout the summer, and they should be publicly available in the Brown Digital Repository within the next months.
