Updates
Brown 2026 programming for 2026 is underway. We welcomed the new year with a new round of Brown 2026 Reads, featuring faculty-author-led book discussions on Integrated by Noliwe Rooks, Skinfolk by Matthew Pratt Guterl, Why Nothing Works by Marc Dunkelman, and The Self in the West and East Asia by Jin Li.
The John Carter Brown Library hosted Brown 2026 senior fellow Joseph M. Adelman for an event marking the 250th anniversary of Thomas Paine’s Common Sense. Also at the JCB, check out a new exhibit, “1776 Across the Americas,” featuring one of the JCB’s copies of the Declaration of Independence that a revolutionary war soldier inscribed with his own John Hancock-style signature. Around campus, don’t miss the Brown 2026 curriculum posters, including the signature course American Revolution taught by Professors Phil Gould and Seth Rockman. Please save the date for a guest lecture by bicentennial expert and critical theorist of historical expertise, M.J. Rymzsa-Pawlowska, in the History Department on the evening of February 26, followed by a workshop at the Nightingale-Brown House on February 27. The Class of 1976 oral history project moves full steam ahead, as UTRA students Mary Lynch ’29 and Ian Cressman ’28 are scheduled to conduct interviews of a series of alumni throughout the spring. Please send members of the Class of 1976 to our website and to our inbox, brown2026democracy@brown.edu.
